FA new poll has revealed that most Americans agree with President Trump and the White House press team’s decision to suspend CNN’s Jim Acosta.
White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders took to social media to announce that the White House suspended Acosta’s press credentials after he laid his hand on a White House intern. These credentials are needed for some events and for other privileged access.
Sanders announced the decision over social media in a series of tweets where she said:
President Trump believes in a free press and expects and welcomes tough questions of him and his Administration. We will, however, never tolerate a reporter placing his hands on a young woman just trying to do her job as a White House intern
This conduct is absolutely unacceptable. It is also completely disrespectful to the reporter’s colleagues not to allow them an opportunity to ask a question. President Trump has given the press more access than any President in history.
Contrary to CNN’s assertions there is no greater demonstration of the President’s support for a free press than the event he held today. Only they would attack the President for not supporting a free press in the midst of him taking 68 questions from 35 different reporters over the course of 1.5 hours including several from the reporter in question. The fact that CNN is proud of the way their employee behaved is not only disgusting, it‘s an example of their outrageous disregard for everyone, including young women, who work in this Administration.
As a result of today’s incident, the White House is suspending the hard pass of the reporter involved until further notice.
The Washington Examiner reports that a recent YouGov poll said 6 of 10 Americans agreed with the president’s ability to revoked the credentials. The poll asked, "The White House has suspended the credentials of CNN’s chief White House correspondent, Jim Acosta. Should the White House be allowed to revoke press credentials?"
A solid majority of Americans believe that President Trump can suspend White House press credentials of reporters like CNN’s Jim Acosta, who lost his this week after a verbal tussle with the president.
The latest YouGov poll found that 59 percent said the president and White House are in charge of the press passes.Only 3 of 10 people who were polled answered definitely no, or "No, never." Another 1 of 10 answered "Other/Not Sure."
CNN and Acosta both deny that he ever laid his hand on the intern. Acosta plainly called the White House’s assertion a "lie."
CNN wrote concerning Sanders, "She provided fraudulent accusations and cited an incident that never happened. This unprecedented decision is a threat to our democracy and the country deserves better. Jim Acosta has our full support."
Acosta might have their support, but nearly 60 percent of Americans support the president’s authority to revoke the credentials.
