The White House said on Tuesday that its call for an immediate but durable ceasefire in the Gaza conflict was not a shift in policy.
"We want to get to a durable and lasting ceasefire as soon as possible and if that is immediate, we certainly welcome that," White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said.
The U.S. State Department earlier said it would like to see an "immediate ceasefire," a statement that seemed to signal some flexibility.
