Sarah Palin moves out of the Alaska governor's mansion this weekend on the heels of new numbers suggesting the firebrand conservative has almost no chance of mounting a challenge to reclaim the U.S. presidency for the Republican party in 2012.
Support for Palin, who will formally hand over the governorship tomorrow, 18 months before her term of office was to expire, has fallen to its lowest point since she vaulted onto the political stage last year as John McCain's vice-presidential running mate, according to a Washington Post-ABC News poll.
Palin, 45, who vows to become a presence on the national stage, is now a tepid third choice among Republican-leaning voters, with 19 per cent support.
