I can't watch the video. I read the John Hersey book years ago, and that was horrifying. The idea that we had to do it is yet another American myth. The Japanese were ready to give in, and our government wouldn't even talk to them. It is beyond shameful. And we get all pissy over 3,000 Americas being killed in the twin towers. Our perspective is somewhat fucked up.

I always believed that the US wanted to detonate the bomb in order to test it for real. I understand that the US "really" didn't know what it would actually do. Also, it was done to show we were the bully of the world, so don't mess with us.
