Most persons are ill-equipped to go out into the world following a standard basic American education.

Some of what they must learn should include daily life basics that they will face if they are to be successful part of society.

To be self-reliant the student must master a basic set of skills, more or less making them a jack of all trades and thus far more equipped to deal with life.

Here’s a list of 20 “basics” that should be added to all primary school studies:

1. How To Build a Fire Without Matches

2. How To Perform CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver

3. Learn Basic Cooking

4. Learn To Change a Tire

5. How To Handle a Job Interview

6. How To Perform Basic First Aid

7. Learn To Swim

8. How To Handle a Hammer, Axe or Handsaw

9. Make a Simple Budget. How Credit Cards Work. All about Mortgages and Rental Property. How Banks Work.

10. Learn At Least One Additional Common Language

11. Basics On How To Negotiate

12. Learn Basic World Geography

16. Learn To Navigate with a Map and Compass

17. How To Sew a Button And Clothing.
