New Zealand quake exposes possible Israeli spy ring when dead Israeli found with 5 passports

One of the victims of the February earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand may have been an Israeli spy, according to a report in The Southland Times.

The man, Ofer Benyamin Mizrahi, 24, was carrying five passports with him at the time of his death, according to the Times.

The newspaper's reports centered around a possible breach of New Zealand's national police computers.

New Zealand's Prime Minister John Key, who was in Los Angeles Tuesday, declined to comment on the report other than to say "there had been no misuse of the police computer system or New Zealand passports by Israeli citizens," The Southland Times reported.

..Mizrahi was one of three Israelis who died in the Feb. 22 earthquake, according to the Israeli media outlet Haaretz.

Last week, in a speech on the Middle East, President Obama reiterated long-standing US policy that there should be a final settlement to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that is based roughly on the pre-1967 borders and mutually agreed land swaps.

Despite the fact that Obama’s declaration was nothing new, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu blasted the idea of pre-1967 borders, even using a news conference with Obama to call the proposal “indefensible.” His chief political rival, Kadima’s Tzipi Livni, disagreed, noting that the pre-1967 borders is already American policy.

Jonathan Jay Pollard (born August 7, 1954 in Galveston, Texas) is a former civilian intelligence analyst who was convicted of spying for Israel. He received a life sentence in 1987.

Israel granted Pollard citizenship in 1995, while publicly denying that he was an Israeli spy until 1998.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the convicted spy in prison in 2002.

Pollard's case was later linked to that of Ben-Ami Kadish, another U.S. national who pleaded guilty to charges of passing classified information to Israel in the same period.

In June 1984, Pollard started passing classified information to Sella a colonel in the Israeli Air Force and received, in exchange, $10,000 cash and a very expensive diamond and sapphire ring, which Pollard later used to propose marriage to his girlfriend Anne. He also agreed to receive $1,500 per month for further espionage.

Pollard also passed classified information to South Africa and attempted, through a third party, to sell classified information to Pakistan on multiple occasions.

Pollard also stole classified documents related to the People's Republic of China, on behalf of his wife Anne; Anne Pollard used the classified assessments to advance her personal business interests, and kept them around the Pollard household, where they were discovered by investigating authorities.

During the course of the Pollard trial, Australian authorities reported the disclosure of classified American documents by Pollard to one of their own agents.

The full extent of the information he gave to Israel has still not been officially revealed.

Pollard's spying as included obtaining and copying the latest version of Radio-Signal Notations (RASIN), a 10-volume manual comprehensively detailing America's global electronic surveillance network.

Pollard often gave Israel suitcases full of documents totally unrelated to US-Israel relations, covering all American secrets dealing with the entire world. Secrets that could be used to blackmailthe United States in the future.

Pollard would transfer classified documents to suitcases, drop the documents off with the Israelis for copying, and retrieve whatever documents needed to be returned days later, along with orders for what types of information to get over the next week.

Through the tons of documents Pollard gave the Israelis, may be the main manner on how Israel has bee able to blackmail the US to do it's bidding.

Twenty five years later, Israel is probably still deciphering some of the documents stolen by Poillard.
