Has anybody bothered to look up Solyndra? Here is a solar panel from them:

You might be asking why you're looking at a series of pipes. Well, they aren't pipes, they are solar cells arranged as tubes. The (bizarre) thinking was that this would make it so that orientation of the panels wouldn't matter, and they could collect energy from any light source.
I'm an electrical engineer. I can tell you, this is an entirely stupid, and incorrect idea. Solyndra was a scam from the start. NO ENGINEER that is even REMOTELY competent would sign off on this as an improvement over a flat panel.
This was the most BRAZEN scam I've ever seen in tech, and I've seen Theranos, and WeWork.
