After nearly 12 years of war in Afghanistan, peace talks are expected to get underway between the US and the Taliban.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai has declared he will not attend this week's talks unless the effort is led by Afghanistan.

So will these talks put an end to the war?

Can the violence stop?
