CIA's Blackwater Ties Run Deep, Private Firm Participated In Covert Raids
Private security guards working for Blackwater USA participated in clandestine CIA raids against suspected insurgents in Iraq and Afghanistan, The New York Times reported Thursday.
Blackwater's role points to a much deeper connection between the company and the spy agency than has been previously disclosed and raises concerns over the legalities of involving contractors in the most sensitive operations conducted by the U.S. government.
***************************
First, there are no government-wide standards for the hiring, vetting and training of Blackwater mercenaries.
Second, there is no oversight or supervision of Blackwater mercenaries. They can commit any crimes they want and no one will punish them.
Third, Blackwater mercenaries employ armed security contractors - many of them third party nationals -- further complicating supervision and oversight responsibility.
