Alberto Gonzales Does Not Agree With Cheney And Supports CIA Probe – If He’s Not Charged

Former U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales on Tuesday said he supports U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder’s decision to probe possible CIA interrogation abuses, Reuters reported.

Former Vice President Dick Cheney has been attacking the Obama Administration for opening an investigation that has been closed by the Bush administration.

Some liberals, meantime, have also complained that Holder’s focus on CIA interrogators doesn’t hold accountable the Bush administration officials who authorized brutal techniques such as waterboarding, which Holder and Obama have both called torture.

Some of these Bush officials directly involved in approving torture are Dick Cheney, Alberto Gonzales, John Yoo and Jay Bybee.

Alberto Gonzales practically changed the meaning of torture in “legalese” so that “harsh interrogations” may not be considered a crime under US and international laws, while he was Bush’s personal White House counsel.

John Yoo and Jay Bybee approved specific torture techniques describing what they felt was authorized, step by step, with definitive and horrific language.

Cheney approved waterboarding and other torture methods as being authorized by George Bush and his administration.

Gonzeles claims he didn’t head the DOJ at the time the interrogation methods were authorized and the original CIA probe closed, but he was privvy to information about the methods as White House counsel.

Many dub Gonzales as the Bush Administration “torture author” for his part in getting the ball rolling in trying to outsmart the Geneva Conventions and International and US laws.

Gonzales may regret agreeing with Obama and Holder as he may be caught in their investigation net if it widens in scope.

He considers himself lawful in his misdeeds and possibly a hero.
