Chile student protest turns violent - Sept. 28 VIDEO

Sept. 28, 2012 - Chilean students clash with police as they call for educational reform.

Chilean students clashed with police on Thursday (September 27) as they renewed their calls for education reforms.

Thursday's demonstration was organized by high school student groups. Some university students and even parents joined the march.

Student demonstrators attempted to break down police barricades as they made their way through the capital city from the University of Santiago.

Police in riot gear tried to disperse the crowds and fired paint pellets at some demonstrators who responded by hurling rocks and other projectiles at the officers.

Police also used water cannon and tear gas against the crowd, making several arrests.

Chile's students have led regular protests calling for education reform since May 2011.

The students say they are frustrated with the government's failure to respond to their demands for a free and improved education.
