30 Years Ago Today: The Day the Middle Class Died

~

From time to time, someone under 30 will ask me, "When did this all begin, America's downward slide?" They say they've heard of a time when working people could raise a family and send the kids to college on just one parent's income (and that college in states like California and New York was almost free).

That anyone who wanted a decent paying job could get one. That people only worked five days a week, eight hours a day, got the whole weekend off and had a paid vacation every summer.

That many jobs were union jobs, from baggers at the grocery store to the guy painting your house, and this meant that no matter how "lowly" your job was you had guarantees of a pension, occasional raises, health insurance and someone to stick up for you if you were unfairly treated.

Young people have heard of this mythical time -- but it was no myth, it was real. And when they ask, "When did this all end?" I say, "It ended on this day: August 5th, 1981."

Beginning on this date, 30 years ago, Big Business and the Right Wing decided to "go for it" -- to see if they could actually destroy the middle class so that they could become richer themselves.

And they've succeeded.

On August 5, 1981, President Ronald Reagan fired every member of the air traffic controllers union (PATCO) who'd defied his order to return to work and declared their union illegal. They had been on strike for just two days.

New Footage of Minutes after Flight 93 Crashed (VIDEO)

~

Note that the narration talks about the REMAINS of a plane crashing and the scanner saying a terrorist bomb blew the plane apart in midair. This is consistent with the reports of wreckage being spread out over 8 miles of countryside and a skyphone call from inside Flight 93 that reported an explosion while still in the air. Flight 93 did not crash in one piece as the official story claims but came apart in midair.

The most likely explanation is that the flight crew regained control of their aircraft, either from the hijackers or from a remote control system. Because the reality on the plane contradicted the official legend being created in the media, the plane could not be allowed to land intact and was then shot down.

Here is my guess for those missing three minutes.

Co-pilot: I found it! I found what's screwing up the flight director!

Pilot: Well cut the fucking wire!

Co-pilot: Done.

Pilot: All right, we are back in control. Tower, we have regained control of our aircraft and need a vector to the nearest place we can set down. This plane needs a good inspection and I want to know who added this unauthorized system to my plane! I want reporters in the field when we land. I am gonna burn someone's ass for this crazy stunt!

Tower: Roger that. Ummmm... Do you see an F-16 off your starboard?

Co-pilot: I got him.

Pilot: That's affirmative tower, what does he want?

Tower: Nothing. Nothing at all. He's just there to ... ummm. escort you. Yeah that's it, escort you. That's all. So don't do any sudden moves for another oh, say ten seconds or so, okay?

Co-pilot, that F-16 is dropping back on our tail!

Racist Blood Thirsty Al-Qaeda Libyan Rebels Get A Makeover. They Are Re-Branded 'Freedom Fighters'

~

NY Times, BBC label Belhaj ‘grateful ally of the west’ as his fighters incarcerate, torture and kill black Libyans.

Western-backed Al-Qaeda rebels are preparing to subvert the post-Gaddafi government in Libya according to intelligence analysts, as one U.S. official accuses NATO of using air strikes to pave the way for terrorists, while the establishment media re-brands terrorist leader Abdel Hakim Belhaj as a respected freedom fighter.

Western Troops Disguised as Arabs Witnessed on the Ground In Libya (VIDEO)

~

A group of six westerners, probably British, are clearly visible at end of above report by al-Jazeera. Five of them were armed and wearing sand-coloured clothes, peaked caps, and cotton Arab scarves. The sixth, apparently the most senior of the group, was carrying no visible weapon and wore a pink, short-sleeve shirt.

Armed westerners have been filmed on the front line with rebels near Misrata in the first apparent confirmation that foreign special forces are playing an active role in the Libyan conflict.

CIA Operative Appointed to Run al-Qaeda Libyan Rebels

~

As it turns out, Mr. Hifter is a CIA operative, which likely explains his lengthy stay in Virginia.

In 1996, the Washington Post reported that a Col. Haftar (a variation on Hifter) had arrived in the United States and he was “reported to be the leader of a contra-style group based in the U.S. called the Libyan National Army,” the Wisdom Fund noted at the time.

“This group is supported by the U.S., and has been given training facilities in the U.S. It’s a good presumption that Col. Haftar’s group operates in Libya with the blessings of our government.”

US ground forces may be ordered to fight in Libya, counter to Obama's pledge

~

Speaking to members of Congress today, Adm. James Stavridis admitted that, while allied forces were not yet considering the deployment of troops on the ground in Libya, it was a possibility.

This could run counter to President Barack Obama's pledge that no U.S. soldiers would set foot on the ground in the embattled country, where the decades-long leadership of Col. Muammar Gaddafi has come under an intense challenge from civilian protesters.
