Five men accused of plotting the 9/11 attacks were formally charged on Saturday with crimes including murder and terrorism in a 13 hour long contentious hearing.
David Nevin, lawyer of the accused mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, told the court that "the world is watching" the trial after the US government admitted to waterboarding the accused terrorist 183 times.
The defense challenged the legitimacy of the court, or military tribunal, calling the process a "blight on America's international reputation and her commitment to the rule of law".
