AOC should probably kick her revolution into high gear, because she may not be around in Washington much longer.
As RedState reported on Monday, multiple blue strongholds are set to lose House seats after the 2020 census. This is due to population shifts to places like Texas, Florida, and Arizona. California saw the largest out-migration, with New York not far behind. That means that both states are almost certainly going to lose representatives. The question is, who gets the short end of the stick within the redistricting process?
Things have gotten so bad that AOC is doing a “census push,” attempting to skew the results of her district’s population (the census is obviously weighted because not everyone responds and is not meant to be manipulated by politicians massaging “turnout”).
The freshman member of Congress, who became a national figure after her upset Democratic primary victory last year, surprised Parkchester passersby with a pop-up event promoting participation in the 2020 Census.
“Our strategy is all about building trust in the community before the enumerators even come to your door,” Ocasio-Cortez told THE CITY.
New
York itself is projected to lose two seats, which will mean a very
heated redistricting process mostly led by the old guard. One of the
casualties is expected to be AOC’s district. The official explanation is
that her district is immigrant-heavy, leading to claims of intimidation
and under-counting. The more likely explanation is that Democrats are
sick of her shtick, which has undoubtedly hurt the party going in 2020.
The
crazy communist ideas, the endorsing Bernie Sanders, and the flaunting
of leadership have led AOC to be largely despised within her caucus.
Because she’s so loved by younger Democrats, though, such a move to push
her out could lead to massive divisions within the party. Sounds good
to me.
Here’s hoping this happens for the sheer entertainment value alone.
