A homeless man accused of robbing a downtown bank Thursday afternoon said he wanted to be arrested, police said.
About 1 p.m., police said, Lawrence Glen Purson, 53, handed a teller at Wachovia Bank, 125 Fifth St. S, a note that said, "This is a holdup, no one will get hurt, call the police. OK."
Purson was arrested as he walked out of the building. He didn't have a weapon and he didn't receive any money from the bank.

What the St. Pete Times did not say in this story, which I got from inside sources, is that the homeless man wanted to be arrested because he was hungry and in jail he would get three square meals a day. Also not mentioned, is that the penalty is 15 years. - Chimp

YES, THIS IS WHAT A FRIEND OF MINE TOLD ME WHO WORKS THERE. POOR MAN. IT'S SO SAD THAT PEOPLE HAVE TO "PRETEND" TO ROB A BANK JUST TO HAVE FOOD IN THEIR TUMMY.......AND 15 YEARS IN JAIL FOR THIS?

I HOPE A GOOD ATTORNEY WILL STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND HELP THIS MAN, SO HE WON'T HAVE TO SPENT 15 YEARS IN JAIL!
