Washington state votes on GMO-labeling initiative (VIDEO)

Election Day in Washington state focuses on a ballot initiative that would require labels on genetically modified foods, or GMOs. If Initiative 522 passes, Washington would be the first state in the country to require packaging to list GMO ingredients. Last year, California voted down a similar ballot proposition.

It is believed that 80 percent of packaged foods in the US contain GMOs. Around the country, at least 20 other states are considering GMO-labeling bills, and a growing contingent in Congress supports a similar bill on a national level.

RT's Sam Sacks talks to Alexis Baden-Mayer, political director for the Organic Consumers Association, about the battle over GMO labeling and the impact that Initiative 522 would have around the country if it passes.
