Assad's new initiative to end Syria crisis (VIDEO)
An analyst says President Bashar al-Assad's latest peace initiative is 'exactly what Syrian people long for' albeit being against the wishes of the US, KSA and Qatar who are inflaming the crisis in the Arab country.
The comment comes as in a key speech on the situation in the country, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Sunday said that the ongoing conflict in his country is not between the state and opposition but between the nation and its enemies and that his government will always extend its hand for dialogue with the opposition and political parties.
The Syrian president said that the government will call for "a comprehensive national dialogue" in the near future, albeit stating that the government "will not have dialogue with a puppet made by the West." "Syria wants peace and reconciliation," he said, adding that "Armed groups must halt terrorist acts."
To further discuss this, Press TV's News Analysis has conducted an interview with Haitham Alsibahie with the Syrian Social Club in London, freelance journalist and analyst, Ala'a Ebrahim in Damascus and senior fellow and director of the Center for Political-Military Analysis at Hudson Institute, Richard Weitz.
