BP back in the black with £1.1bn profit just months after record loss from Gulf of Mexico spill

The Deepwater Horizon explosion in the Gulf of Mexico on April 20 killed 11 workers and sent oil gushing into the sea for three months.

BP was charged £20bn in the second quarter - including a £12.9bn compensation fund - sending the company into the red for the first time in 18 years.
